Question: The plugin splits traffic between two urls and I am concerned that if I send traffic to different urls, this will effect my search engine ranking (search engines might index and post the wrong page, etc).

Answer:

We utilise 302 temporary redirects to shuffle visitors to the variation from the master, this is based on the recommendations from Google in their webmaster guidelines regarding split testing.

According to their docs, they’re able to divine whether a page is involved in a split test or not based on this.

Any SEO value should remain on the Master and we recommend not linking directly to the variation from anywhere as SPT will take care of the traffic split for you.

Additionally we also noindex and add canonicalization tags to the Variation page involved in the split test automatically for you to ensure that it isn’t indexed.
